Players to consider from relegated teams
If Hull City go down CB Maguire and LW Grosicki might be worth a punt, Sunderland keeper Jordan Pickford will be on his way to a Prem club for sure and Swansea will have trouble hanging on to Sigurdsson and Llorente. Not sure about Defoe, his age is catching up with him.

Read this morning that West Ham are prepared to pay Defoe 100 grand a week to get him?

F hell, wouldn't mind Defoe but 100 grand a week?

I'm sure we'll make a marquee signing from one of them.

Re: Players to consider from relegated teams
To me none of the players from those relegated from the PL seem an improvement on what we have got as automatic starters except for Pickford and possibly Siggurdson ( if Swansea go down that is ).

Re: Players to consider from relegated teams
2 years, 100 grand a week for Defoe, £10m all in for 2 seasons on a free.

Zaza, £6m including wages and loan fee for 4 months of utter shite.

If he scores 25 goals across 2 seasons it's been worth it in the current climate and he probably will with half decent service.

Ben Gibson at Middlesbrough might be worth a shout.

Re: Players to consider from relegated teams
I wish people would stop claiming that players on a free transfer cost nothing! Defoe would probably want a £3m signing on fee at least. All 'free' means is that the player himself will get a big pay out.

Do you really think that Ibrahimovic didn't get a massive golden handshake as a welcome to Man Utd after his free transfer?! Christ knows what he got!

Good shout on Negredo, how old is he though?

Re: Players to consider from relegated teams
I like the 3 centre backs and two wing back system, so need some pace in the team, 1RB is crucial, top goalie, two strikers and keep carrol or sacko, a playmaker would be a bonus but everyone is after 1!

Re: Players to consider from relegated teams
We should definitely be interested in Pickford though. A top keeper is a must and he looks like he could be decent for years to come.

Re: Players to consider from relegated teams
Why is Pickford out of our reach?

In my opinion he is just the kind of 'keeper that we need to be looking at.

In fact, if you look at Spurs, their success over the last few years is partly down to picking up decent young English players from relegated/lower league clubs.

Much as it pains me to say, we should be looking at that and learning. Cresswell, Antonio, Byram... it's a reasonable start but we should be looking at Pickford and others too.

Re: Players to consider from relegated teams
We need to look at our under achievers in the team and replace with positions from over achievers in these clubs. Sounds simple right, but if we do opt for Pickford we must look to replace a keeper, question is who is the under achiever between Randolph and Adrian?

Same with Defoe, do we get rid of Carroll at 28 with Defoe at 34 and only on a year deal?

scott_d 3:35 Mon May 8
Re: Players to consider from relegated teams
I think we need get rid of Carroll regardless and bring in as good a striker as we can with a decent fitness record.

I think Defoe would still be an improvement on Carroll seeing as he's likely to be fit, even at 34, for many more games but if we did bring in Defoe it would be more likely as one of a group of strikers and not as our main striker.

Re: Players to consider from relegated teams
Really only Pickford or Defoe

Pickford needs to go somewhere and be a no1 i'd say Everton would be the main rivals in that sense

Assuming Hull go down there aren't any other players in the three that will drop that would strengthen the positions we need
